Ernakulam>> Cochin Carnival
‘Cochin Carnival’ a cultural festival to be held from December 20 to January 1, 2014 at fort kochi.
Cochin Carnival is celebrated at Fort Kochi every year during the end of December.
The venues are Fort Kochi Veli ground, fort kochi beach, Vasco-da-Gama Square, Pallath Raman ground
How to reach: Fort kochi can be reached by bus from ernakulam ( about 15 km ) or by boat from ernakulam boat jetty.
The formal inauguration of the carnival was held on December 15 with the carnival flag being hoisted by Dominic Presentation, MLA, at Vasco-da-Gama Square, Fort Kochi.
Thousands of people from within and outside the country will participate in the event. .
Events like dirt bike race, beach volleyball, bnd beach football will be conducted as part of the carnival.
A series of competitions in Chavittunatakam, quiz, folk songs, cycle speed race, long distance run, veterans football match, and folk songs have been slated to be conducted till December 31. The roads in the area will be decorated as part of the fiesta.
A large number of people are expected in Fort Kochi Veli ground, the venue of some of the major events of the carnival, where the fair and amusement park will be set up.
Competitions in sports and culture, drawing of ‘kolam’, rangoli, and mehandi will be conducted at Pallath Raman ground
The kite flying competition, a major attraction, will be held on Thursday.
The Fort Kochi beach will be the venue for the beach football competition from Thursday to Monday.
Other competitions to be organised will be children’s painting, light music, boxing, and rock show.
The cultural fiesta will come to an end with the burning of the Papani and colourful fireworks.
The curtain will come down on the carnival with a spectacular Cochin Carnival Rally from the Veli ground on January 1
